Can you eat quagga mussels from Lake Geneva?

Like all mussels, quagga mussels filter large amounts of water to feed and can therefore accumulate certain contaminants and microorganisms from their environment. Their very small size also means there is little meat and not much culinary interest. In Switzerland, Eawag therefore advises against eating them. Better to leave them where you found them… even if there are sometimes thousands beneath your fins!
